Open Records Request

Under the Kansas Open Records Act, the City is required to provide records which are deemed open records to the public.

Commercial Use
When the requested records contain names, addresses or information from which names and addresses can be derived, you are prohibited from contacting those listed in an attempt to sell them a service or product. See K.S.A. 45-220.

Charges
Please note, a charge for providing access to or furnishing copies of public records is authorized by state law and has been established by the City. These charges provide reasonable compensation to the City for the costs incurred in responding to your request. The charge for the records requested will be provided to you when it is known, and advance payment may be required.

Record Delivery
Overland Park may provide unredacted or redacted copies of the requested records, deny requests because requested records are closed, or deny requests because records are not in the city's custody. Also, the Kansas Open Records Act recognizes that some records contain information which is private in nature. For this reason, the Act lists a number of exemptions. See K.S.A. 45-221.
